There comes a point in life where the world quiets down just enough for us to hear a whisper inside—one that says, “Is there more?”
For many, this whisper shows up after heartbreak, illness, change, or grief. Maybe you’ve lost something or someone that once defined you. Maybe you’re living with pain—physical or emotional—that no one sees. Maybe you’re wondering if the best of you is already behind you.

St. Hildegard of Bingen tells a different story.
Born in 1098 and often unwell from an early age, Hildegard would not have been considered a “strong” woman by the world’s standards. And yet, she lived one of the most powerful, creative, and purpose-filled lives history remembers. She became a visionary mystic, healer, writer, composer, and leader—not despite her suffering, but because she listened deeply to it.
She didn’t begin sharing her great works until her 40s. She founded her own abbey at 52. And in her 60s and 70s, she was still creating, still teaching, still letting Spirit move through her, even in times of pain and fatigue.
What if your most powerful years are not behind you, but blooming now—precisely because you’ve lived, felt, struggled, and softened?
St. Hildegard teaches us that what hurts can become holy. That the body’s limits can become openings for soul’s wisdom. And that the voice you’re afraid to use may be the exact one the world needs to hear.
Even her illness became her teacher. It led her toward healing traditions that are still honored today. Her knowledge of natural medicine, nourishment, and spiritual well-being formed the roots of holistic healing in the West.
If she were here today, I believe she would say:
“You are not separate from creation. You are sacred. Your healing matters. Your story matters. You belong here. You are needed.”
So if you find yourself navigating a tender season—midlife, loss, reinvention, awakening—know that you’re not alone. Maybe your body needs more care now. Maybe your heart longs for more meaning. Maybe your voice is ready to rise.

This is not the end of your story.
This is your becoming.
Let St. Hildegard’s voice guide you:
Slow down.
Listen inward.
Nourish what aches.
Let yourself be ripened by time, not diminished by it.
You are not broken. You are becoming whole.
And if something in your heart is saying, “I want to go deeper,” my husband and I invite you to join us for a soul-restoring retreat that honors the sacred journey of healing, creativity, and wisdom.
Come rest. Come remember who you are. Come home to your spirit.
