There is something a bit magical about late summer.
The gardens are still vibrant. The days are warm. Flowers continue to bloom, and the trees are covered in green. But if we pay close attention, we might notice subtle signs that the season is slowly changing.
The times of sunrise and sunset shift slightly. Mornings carry a hint of coolness. Birds begin gathering in larger flocks. Some plants have finished blooming. A few leaves on a tree change to yellow.
Nature doesn’t resist these changes but moves gracefully from one season to the next.
As human beings, we can find change a little more difficult. Even when we know it’s a natural part of life, transitions can make us feel anxious or uncertain. We want to hold on to what feels familiar and life to stay the same.

St. Hildegard of Bingen understood that all of creation moves in sacred rhythms. The changing seasons, the cycles of growth and rest, the movement from seed to blossom all reveal a deeper wisdom. She encouraged living in harmony with these changes.
Maybe that wisdom is especially meaningful in late summer for us.
Just as a gardener notices when vegetables are ready to harvest or herbs are ready to dry for winter, we too can begin noticing what is changing in our own lives.
Maybe a chapter in your life is coming to a close.
Maybe your priorities are shifting.
Perhaps you’re feeling called toward something new.
The beauty of nature is that it never rushes to the next season. The transition is gradual.

Maybe today you might ask yourself, What is already changing in my life?
This week, I invite you to open the door and head outside for a walk. As you step among the trees or alongside a creek, notice the subtle signs of the season changing.
Perhaps you see flowers beginning to fade or a few leaves that have fallen on the ground. Maybe squirrels are gathering a few nuts, or the sun is setting earlier.
As you walk, contemplate what is already changing in your own life. What is quietly shifting? What has reached its natural completion? What is newly emerging?
Listen inwardly as you walk. Be open to what comes.
The natural world reminds us that life moves in rhythms.
When we welcome change with awareness, we discover that every ending carries the promise of a new beginning.
If you’re longing to live more deeply in harmony with the rhythms of nature, your own inner wisdom, and the timeless teachings of St. Hildegard of Bingen, I invite you to join my Healing with Hildegard online course.
Together we’ll explore practical ways to integrate her holistic approach to spirituality, creativity, health, and healing into everyday life.
