Rising Above

Imagine you’re walking on a path through a field and your eyes see a nearby muddy pond.  You glance at a dragonfly buzzing about the tall grasses, and begin to move on as the dirty waters hold little interest for you.  But wait!

Pause for a moment and look more closely.  You don’t want to miss this treasure.

The radiant lotus flowerpushes through the muck and mire of the waters reaching toward the light.  It opens its blossoms of beauty, untouched and unsoiled.  Connected, yet hovering just above the mud below.  A pure and radiant beauty.

The seventh chakra, the crown chakra is what gives us the ability to “rise above” and access higher states of consciousness, as we open to that which is beyond ourselves.

It’s located at the top of the head and slightly above the head. It sits like a crown, opening upwards.  It’s also associated with the brain and the nervous system.

It’s the source of our connection to the divine energy of creation and to our higher self.  Also to the experience that we are one with everyone and everything in nature.  The crown chakra, when open, radiates as a lotus flower with one thousand violet or white petals.

When this chakra is in balance, you feel grounded and connected to the divine. You feel unity with others and the world. You have a sense of the deeper meaning of life and feel a deep peace. You experience the Divine within you and within the world.

If the crown chakra is out of balance, you may feel lonely and disconnected from others and worldly matters. You may lack a sense of direction. And feel detached from spirit. This may result in anger, aggression, depression, or flightiness.

Opening the Crown Chakra with Mantra

Chanting a mantra that relates to the Hindu concept of Brahman can help you to bring awareness and healing to this chakra, supporting you in connecting to the divine and feeling at one with all that is.

Brahman is without a beginning and without an end and yet is within all. Brahman is cosmic spirit and infinite consciousness.  The universal principle and eternal truth.

Brahman is the divine source of everything that exists and does not exist.  Brahman is genderless and yet has a dual nature that encompasses both male and female.  The male aspect known as Purusha, “that which fills,” and the female aspect known as Shakti which means “energy” or “dynamic force.”

You can find the Healing Brahman Mantra in my Free Healing Library and chant along with me as you sit in a relaxed, yet upright position.

Before you begin, speak this prayer to the Divine Spirit:

“Divine Spirit, infinite source of life and love, I ask that you support me in bringing balance to my crown chakra. I release and dissolve any negative energies or experiences within this energy center so that I feel a deep peace in life as I grow into the Light of the Divine to become my highest self.”

Then, begin the Brahman mantra chant.   Remember to end with a moment of silence and inward reflection.

If you’d like, share your experiences with this mantra and the crown chakra in the comment section below. What comes up for you?  How does chanting the mantra support you?
