Open Your Heart to More Love and Compassion: simple, everyday activities to balance the heart chakra

Chakras are the energy centers of our bodies. When energy flows to them, it fills the area with the information each chakra needs to perform its unique work. For your body to work at its optimal level, energy and information must be able to travel through these channels easily.

The 3 lower chakras below the heart include the root, sacral and solar plexus chakras. They are related to earthly matters such as survival and security, sex, creation, strength and power.

The fourth chakra, the heart chakra, is the bridge between the lower chakras of matter and the upper chakras of spirit. The heart chakra is our source of love, connection and compassion. We’ll take a closer look at this chakra today.

The upper chakras above the heart include the throat, brow and crown chakras. They are related to expressing yourself, clarity of perception, intuition and higher consciousness.

The Heart Chakra: A Bridge

The heart chakra, the fourth chakra, is located at the center of the chest. It’s the bridge between the lower chakras of matter and the upper chakras of spirit. When we work on balancing the first 3 lower chakras, we’re able to more fully and easily open our heart chakra and the upper, spiritual chakras.

When the heart chakra is open and balanced, you flow with love, empathy, and compassion. You’re able to accept others and yourself. You can forgive easily. You’re open to love. You experience an exchange of giving and receiving of love with others.

The actions that you take in your everyday life affect your energy centers. Why not choose ones that will open your heart to feel more love and compassion? Here are 2 simple activities to support your heart chakra in your daily life.

1.Share kindness.

  • Say a heartfelt thank you when someone has done something helpful or supportive for you.
  • Ask for what you need with a genuine please when making the request.
  • Share a compliment with a friend or colleague.
  • Text a friend who’s having a hard day and share something to make them smile.

2. Practice gratitude.

  • Send a note to a friend or loved one expressing gratitude for something they’ve done for you.
  • Before bed, think of 3 things that you appreciated from your day. Write them down if you’d like.

Remember that the actions you take in your life every day can help to keep your energy centers flowing and balanced! This will support you in feeling more love and compassion in your life.
