How to Get Started Dream Journaling This Winter

The season of winter is a wonderful time to dive deeper into self-inquiry. It’s a natural time for quiet and reflection. As you move inward, you can become more aware of the dreams you have at night.

You can explore the deeper meaning of your dreams gaining wisdom that can support you on your life’s journey. You may discover answers to the questions you have, find support in following your passion and realize the next steps in a difficult situation.

The deeper longings of the soul speak to us through our dreams.

Did you know that your soul has messengers that speak to you in your dreams at night?  They want to communicate with you!

Dream expert, Robert Moss says, “We need to dream, dreaming is the way that we connect with the deeper universe. It’s our way for direct experience of the sacred. It is the safest and most common everyday way of entering an altered state of consciousness…”

One of the simplest ways is through dream journaling. Turning inward and tuning into your dreams at this time of year can help you access your soul’s deeper wisdom gained from the last year and find clarity for your journey in the coming new year.

Here are 6 tips to get started with dream journaling:

  1. Awaken slowly – Dreams often dissolve very quickly as you open your eyes! Keep a journal and pen next to your bed. As you first awaken, keep your eyes closed while you’re still lying relaxed in bed. Put your attention on your dreams, trying to remember any details. Slowly open your eyes and write down any details you remember.
  2. Notice your feelings – Pay attention to how you feel when you first awaken from a dream. Your feelings and sensations may give you guidance about the wisdom that the dream has to share.
  3. Attend to your first thoughts – What comes to mind when you first awaken from a dream? Pay attention to those thoughts and write them in your journal.

  1. Picture the images and events – Picture the location, weather, colors or any other details you can from the dream. Review the main events that you can remember. Write them in your journal. Think of a short title for your dream to help you remember it.
  1. Compare to your life – Compare the dream to your daily life. Could part of your dream possibly happen in your life – either literally or symbolically?
  1. Ask questions – Ask questions of characters in your dream by writing them in your journal. Be open to the answers you may receive.

Start dream journaling this winter and watch the magic happen as you begin a new year in 2025!
