Have you had days where you feel rather down, not very creative nor inspired? All of us have.
The next time you do, see if you can take a little time to get outside in nature. Nature is a great healer and inspiration.
I’m sure you’ve experienced it in the past.
Think of a time when you’ve been awestruck by something you’ve seen in nature. A time when it took your breath away. Maybe a beautiful view from the top of a mountain or the sunlight dancing on the ocean as you walk on the beach?
Being in nature can give us a feeling of reverence and respect for its beauty, power and magnificence. And this experience can shift your perspective, giving you a sense of wonder and connection to something that’s greater than yourself.
You can feel humbled by seeing how small your one, individual life is in the vastness of the earth and the universe. Yet, at the same time, you may feel empowered knowing that you too are part of this magnificence. You breathe the air gifted from the trees and drink the water and eat the food given by the earth. You use the many gifts given to you and give back to others.
The natural world can help us to cultivate a sense of awe and wonder in the world. And in doing so, we ignite our ability to be creative.
When we spend time in nature, we connect more easily and directly with all of creation, inspiring us to be creative ourselves. In nature, you can experience:
- Amazing creativity – The natural world is incredibly resourceful and creative in its way of being. It grows, expands, adapts, and changes in response to the ever-changing world around it.
- Expansiveness – The natural world grows and grows in a great expansion. Although obstacles or even destruction may occur, its resilience helps it to survive and thrive once again.
- Serenity and peace – Although nature contains magnificent power and great activity, it can be incredibly tranquil and calm. It is centered, still and peaceful.
- Joy – The natural world nourishes our senses bringing us a feeling of happiness – the sight of blossoming yellow flowers, the sound of the mourning dove, the smell of the fresh rain upon the rich soil, the feel of cool water from the stream on our toes. We feel joy in the midst of this magnificence!
Nature can take our breath away, filling us with a sense of awe and wonder in the world. It can heal our bodies and nourish our souls. And it can inspire us to be creative, expansive, calm and joyful.
When was the last time you spent time in nature?
Can you commit to getting out there today?
I hope you can!
