The summer’s a wonderful time to engage in some fun and creative activities to help you rebalance your energy before heading into autumn. This week, I’ll focus on the energy of the fourth chakra, the heart chakra. Let’s strengthen and balance this energy center and have a little fun too!
The Heart Chakra: A Bridge
The heart chakra, the fourth chakra, is located at the center of the chest. It’s the bridge between the lower chakras of matter and the upper chakras of spirit. When we balance the first 3 lower chakras, we’re able to more fully journey across this bridge to open the upper, spiritual chakras.
Physically located at the heart, chest, shoulders, arms, and hands, the heart chakra connects you to the element of air. You can use your breath to feel deeply connected to what is around you, harmoniously exchanging energy with it.
A Balanced Heart Chakra: Flowing with Love and Compassion
When the heart chakra is open and balanced, you flow with love, empathy, and compassion. You’re able to accept others and yourself. You can forgive easily. You’re open to love.
Engage in these 3 activities to become more empathetic, generous, and loving.
- Share kindness throughout the day.
- Text a loved one a photo of something that reminds you of them.
- Write a “thinking of you” card to a friend or family member you haven’t talked to in a while. Send it in the mail.
- Tell others about your favorite small business — via email or social media.
- Share a compliment with a colleague at work.
- Leave your loved one their favorite snack in their bag or on their desk.
- Text a friend who’s going through a tough time. Share a song, photo, or joke to make them smile.
- Practice gratitude daily for a week.
- Send a note to a teacher or mentor, expressing gratitude for something you learned that has left a lasting impression.
- Express your appreciation to someone for something they have done – out loud and in person. Truly feel and mean what you say. “Thank you for joining me for lunch today.” or “Thank you for helping me with the project today.”
- Resolve to not criticize others or complain about anything for the day. If you find yourself doing this, stop and think about something you are grateful for. Notice how the energy shifts.
- Before bed, think of 3 things that you appreciated from your day. If you’d like draw or write them in a journal. Do this every day for a week. Challenge yourself to not repeat anything during the week.
- Breathe mindfully.
- Go outside near something in nature and sit quietly. Become aware of your breath. Match the length of the inhale to the exhale. Try to lengthen them.
- Inhale slowly through the nose, deep in the lungs and belly. Exhale slowly through the nose. At the end of the exhale, open your mouth and blow out any remaining air in your lungs until they are empty. Repeat. This expels all the used breath and fills your lungs with fresh, new air. This one you can do almost anywhere!
- While walking outside, close your mouth and breathe through your nose. Work on increasing the number of steps you take with each inhale and exhale, slowing your breath, as you continue to walk.
Focus on opening your heart chakra this week, and next time we’ll move on to activities for the fifth chakra, the throat chakra. Join me!
