5 Steps to Boost Your Creative Power

Creativity is essential to our health and well-being. As long we’re creating, we grow, develop and evolve as individuals and as a community.

Creativity is an act that helps us to thrive as human beings. It’s like a refreshing breath of air. It nourishes and energizes.

Yet, some people seem to have an endless supply of creative power while others struggle to ignite even a spark.

If you’re one who struggles, know that you can ignite this spark and fan the flames of your creative power. Here are 5 steps to give yourself a strong start!

  1. Get a good night’s sleep – Sounds simple but it’s hard to be creative when you’re tired! Fine tuning your nighttime routine by being mindful of screen use, food intake and a regular bedtime can be supportive to restful sleep. Then you’ll feel refreshed and ready to be creative the next day!

  1. Recall your dreams – Dreams can help you access your creative nature. To remember your dreams, keep your eyes closed while you’re still lying in bed after you first awake in the morning. Focus on remembering your dreams. Review any events, details such as location, colors, weather and mood of the dreams you remember. Write these down in a journal.

  1. Use the color blue – Blue is associated with the sky and ocean and brings a feeling of peace, safety, freedom and openness to new ideas. Surround yourself with blue to encourage exploration and inspire creative ideas. Go outside and gaze at the blue sky. Put on a blue shirt or place some blue objects in your working space and see what happens!

  1. Go for a walk outside – Walking outside gets your blood flowing, invigorating your energy and mind. This helps you tap into inspiration. Leave your headset at home and connect with nature and your own thoughts during your walk. Soon you’ll be inspired with new creative ideas!

  1. Seek new experiences- Getting stuck in the same rut doing the same things every day will drain your creative energy. Finding new experiences that you enjoy will give you new perspectives and ideas. Go for a walk in a new location, eat at a new restaurant, listen to a different podcast or join a weekend workshop. Expose yourself to something new and you’ll soon find creative ideas bubbling up inside.

These 5 steps will help you boost your creative power. You’ll feel nourished and energized, helping you to thrive on your life’s journey.
