5 Simple Practices to Build Resilience and Find More Ease in Stressful Times

All of us experience stress in our lives at times. But some people seem to recover from these situations more easily than others. They’re more resilient during stressful times.

What is resiliency? Resilience is the ability to adjust as you move through challenging situations, recovering and returning to a place of balance.

Here are 5 simple practices to build resilience and find more ease in your life under stressful times.

  1. Take a screen break – Turn off the TV and computer. Put your phone down. Unplug and doing something else for a few hours. Cook a meal, listen to some music, do yoga, garden, go for a walk. Take a break from all the news and stories that bombard us while on screens. Breathe and relax for a little while.

 

  1. Time for fun – Take time each week, maybe several times a week, where you engage in an activity you enjoy. Go to a concert. Try a new restaurant. See a show with friends. Take a bike ride. Get an ice cream. Your body will relax and you’ll soon be smiling.

 

  1. Sleep – Take time to unwind in the evening and get a good night’s sleep to recharge your body and mind. When possible, a nap during the day helps tremendously too!

 

  1. Express your thoughts and feelings – Find a healthy way to express your thoughts and feelings when you’re upset or angry. Journal. Paint or draw. Write a song. Talk with a friend. Choose one that you can access easily as a healthy outlet to express what’s bubbling up inside.

 

  1. Meditate – Calm your body and thoughts. Bring yourself back to a centered place. Even 10 minutes can be beneficial!
